The North Coast

Point and beach break offering smooth, down the line riding and great jumping.  Works well  in westerly conditions and is at its best in a moderate to large swell on low tide. Excellent location for learning. launch under the point to avoid the shorey and other than the occasional whale there are very few hazards. Bakers is usually less windy, gustier and smaller than Bell Buoy and the  other North coast breaks east of the Tamar, but makes up for it with a quality wave.

The bad boy of Tassie wavesailing. Super windy, clean lines on the inside, a bowl section next to the point and massive jumps. Fun for days... Bell Buoy is best on a WSW which is slightly side off.  Keep an eye out for rocks near the launch area which get exposed after a big storm and hang onto your gear out the back.

Protected by Low Head, East Beach is the place for a chill session or if its too big elsewhere.  It works best in westerly conditions which are cross on. Usually its pretty gusty but a fun spot to bring your mum and great for bump n jump. If you need to spice things have a crack at the wave at the tip of Low Head on a big day.

Tamo is one of the few point breaks in Tassie that works in NW wind. Its super reliable, giving long down the line rides even on smaller days. On nuclear days it'll go well over mast high but the face stays smooth and manageable. If you get cleaned up you just wash out from the point. Launching and exiting can be tricky, there is a big wind shadown under the point and a surgy shore break over rocks to deal with. Be prepared to swim your gear clear of the shorey and wait for a gust. But once out its full on, clean steady wind.  Top spot!

Head to Tomo in the big NW storms when its too crazy to sail elsewhere. Tomahawk is a protected shallow bay, large swell wraps and breaks along the sandspit next to the island, and at the river mouth.  Great for long, clean down the line. Keep an eye out for rocks downwind of the river mouth.
